February 1, 2019What Eats Mosquitos? Natural Mosquito Predators
February 5, 2019Answer: Regarding vector pests, there are approximately 176 species of mosquitoes in the United States! If you think that is a lot, there are approximately 2,700 species of mosquitoes worldwide! That’s a lot of mosquitoes!
Not to mention that their lifespan is not that long – typically no more than two months!! Males usually only live for about 10 days or less. During that time period, female mosquitoes typically lay up to 300 eggs at a time, and when eggs hatch they will typically stay within a few hundred feet of where they are born, which is why it seems that there are lots of mosquitoes concentrated in one area. Also, the male mosquitoes cannot be blamed for the bug bites you get during the spring and summer months. Female mosquitoes are the ones responsible for bugging people, and causing us to swat, scratch, and itch after being bit!
